2. a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.

I had a co-worker at work that was trying to teach me principals of mindfulness that had helped him deal with anxiety. What I got from the lesson was deep breathing and allow thoughts to come to mind and relax and breath as the thoughts come. I got some magazines and one thing I remember is that my co-worker said to listen first and then read more on the topic. I understood what he meant because I was able to go back to some of my information on mindfulness and started to understand it better. I practiced just the breathing and relaxing before a difficult night trying to sleep and I actually woke up the next morning feeling rested.
